I'm saying that Quicken has little incentive to fix any export issues the software MIGHT have which would make it easier for their customers to leave Quicken. I don't know why it's so difficult to export from Quicken and import into Moneydance (or any other alternative software). However, are you saying the files Quicken exports are incorrect? Doesn't MoneyDance have an incentive to import these files correctly to get the business? Quicken has little incentive to help folks leave their software.

Yes, it is likely you will have to straighten out each account once in order to get it to completely align with what you have in Quicken.

Here's the discount code as posted on Facebook. You will need to purchase a license otherwise you'll be limited to 100 transactions. As I recommended upthread, I recommend you use the latest beta version (1867 as of this writing) because they are continually improving the import from Quicken QIF function, knowing that many people are interested in an alternative to Quicken. You can export from Quicken and import into Moneydance via a QIF file that has all of your Quicken accounts and will bring them all into Moneydance. I think running in parallel for some period of time is smart when transitioning like mentioned by a user above. I have until next April I think on my Quicken 2017 and will probably re-evaluate then. There were a few things in the way that MD worked that I didn't like either, but I cannot even remember what. It seemed like it would have taken forever to clean up or I would need to abandon my 25 years of historical data. I imported my Quicken data and it looked like a mess. I downloaded the trial of MoneyDance when all this subscription talk for Quicken started. Are these things covered? Covered as ongoing transaction downloads from the bank? Covered as an import from a Quicken account? I also suspect that investment transactions (reinvested dividends, dividends going to sweep account, and other things) are probably not handled well. I literally have hundreds of such transactions to multiple institutions. It is a kind of forensic exercise to recognize account transfers, especially with split transactions, like a mortgage payment that goes to principle (one account), escrow (another account), and interest (an expense as opposed to an account). QIF files aren't very good at dealing with transfers between accounts, unless there have been big changes. I have dozens of accounts so that seems like a massive project.

The only import mechanism I could find was via QIF files and those only work one account at a time. I have a year to go on my Quicken and learning new software hurts my head.īased on your "one batch file" I downloaded Moneydance to try it out. At first glance it appears more user friendly.

I haven't used Moneydance in months and when I opened it I got a free update to 2019. I have Moneydance and was surprised I could transfer 100% of my Quicken records to Moneydance in one batch file.
